Texas 6-week abortion ban to remain in force, federal appeals court says

The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that it will allow Texas' controversial new law that bars abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy to stay in force while it considers an appeal of a judge's order blocking it.
The vote of the panel was 2-1.
The Texas law bans abortions after fetal cardiac activity is detected, which usually happens about six weeks into a pregnancy and often before a woman knows she is pregnant. It's been the subject of heated litigation since before it took effect at the beginning of last month.

The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications devices, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers on Thursday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of his congressional briefings.
