Tempest in a teapot: Govt cracks down on blending of inferior imports with Indian teas

The Tea Board of India has warned all importers and blenders of tea against passing off a mix of inferior foreign imports as premium Indian teas.
To protect the quality and prestige of one of India’s most famous exports and domestically most popular brew -- tea, the government has cracked the whip against inferior imports and their blending with Indian teas.
Through a notification, the Tea Board of India on Thursday not only warned all importers and blenders of tea against passing off a mix of inferior foreign imports as Indian tea, but also made it mandatory that the origin of imported tea in the blend needs to be mentioned on all sale invoice and labelling from now.
