Tejashwi Yadav had earlier filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court withdrawing his alleged "Gujarati thugs" remark.
The Supreme Court on Monday directed RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to file a "proper statement" withdrawing his alleged remark that "only Gujaratis can be thugs".
A bench of Justices A S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan granted one week to Mr Yadav to file a new statement after the complainant raised an objection over his earlier affidavit.
"We grant time of one week to the petitioner to file a proper statement," the bench said while posting the matter for next hearing on February 5.
