Ex-TMC leader Baisakhi Banerjee claimed that every teaching post in state-run universities was “on sale” and jobs were given to undeserving candidates during Partha Chatterjee's tenure as education minister.
Former Trinamool Congress leader Baisakhi Banerjee has levelled fresh allegations against sacked Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the teacher recruitment scam.
Banerjee, who served as General Secretary of West Bengal College and Universities Professor's Association (WBCUPA), claimed undeserving candidates got direct entry into educational institutions during Partha Chatterjee’s tenure as Minister of Education.
In an interview with news agency ANI, she stated that every teaching post in state-run universities was “on sale”, and if details about college and university recruitments come to light, it could be an even would turn out to be a bigger scam than the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) scam.
“There was a syndicate working inside the WBCUPA which added a price tag to the college university sub-post where every post was on sale. Those who could not teach even in school entered the university directly with Partha Chatterjee's push," Banerjee alleged.
The then education minister was giving jobs to “under-qualified thieves”, she claimed. The ex-TMC leader reiterated her earlier charge that not only was he aware that his subordinates accepted kickbacks, but that he, too, indulged in corruption.
"He didn't consider anyone above himself, not even Mamata Banerjee. He misused his position several times and completely controlled the education department,” she added.
Banerjee went on to state that when she confronted Chatterjee about the purported malfeasance in the education department, he pulled up the people who were involved and also suspended a man who was accused of corruption. But this was an eyewash, she claimed.
