Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy has slammed DMK MP Elangovan for saying Hindi is a language of underdeveloped states.
Tamil Nadu BJP on Monday slammed Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP TKS Elangovan for his casteist remark against Hindi speaking states. BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy claimed that DMK is trying to create a North-South divide by reigniting the language debate.
Speaking to India Today, Tirupathy said, "He [Elangovan] said that Hindi is for people from underdeveloped states. This is wrong. Every 10-15 days they are talking about language and want to create a North-South divide."
Earlier in the day, MP Elangovan stirred controversy by claiming that Hindi is the language of underdeveloped states and adopting Hindi would make people shudras.
Elangovan said, “Hindi is the native tongue in only underdeveloped states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. Look at West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Punjab. Aren’t all these developed states? Hindi is not the mother tongue of the people of these states. Hindi will convert us to Shudras. Hindi will be no good for us."
Responding to the remarks, Thirupathy said that DMK is trying to hide its failures in Tamil Nadu by stirring controversy over language.
"If HIndi comes in, it will make us Shudras; HIndi speaking states are under developed states" : DMK leader @Elangovantks .The DMK which is an off shoot of the Justice Party as claimed by its president @mkstalin , is exposed as a castiest party that is anti-Dalit.(1/2)
