Suspense over GNCTD Bill continues in Rajya Sabha, discussion likely today

Rajya Sabha Chairman said the NCT Bill will be taken up for discussion only after ‘consideration and return’ of the Finance Bill.

The fate of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021 hangs in balance as discussion on the crucial legislation was delayed by the Centre in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. As the House resumed proceedings, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, “We have allotted around 8 to 9 hours to the debate on Finance Bill. After that we will take up the NCT Bill, if necessary, we will sit late at night to pass the bills listed today.” Rajya Sabha resumed normal proceedings after paying respects to AIADMK MP Mohammad John who passed away on Tuesday in Chennai.
