A suspect is in custody after a series of shootings left people injured along a portion of Interstate 5 in the Seattle and Tacoma areas of Washington state, officials said. The shootings follow a recent increase in gun-related incidents on roadways in King County, which includes Seattle, according to CNN affiliate KING5. A white Volvo with California plates was identified in connection with the I-5 incidents overnight. The suspected shooter was taken into custody after police in Pierce County located the vehicle, King County Trooper Rick Johnson of the Washington State Patrol said. Authorities tracked the suspect – who has not yet been named – to an apartment complex in Tacoma, Sgt. Darren Moss Jr. of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department told CNN. After the suspect left the complex, officers used stop sticks to disable the vehicle, Moss said. A deputy ordered the suspect to walk backward with his hands up and then lay flat on his stomach, body camera video released by the sheriff’s department shows. As he was handcuffed, a voice that appeared to be the suspect’s twice said, “I’m not resisting.” The first I-5 shooting occurred in the northbound lanes at 320th Street, where a passenger in a vehicle was injured, Johnson said in a social media post.

Janet Mills and her allies are counting on a gender gap to narrow Platner’s wide lead ahead of the June 9 primary to decide who will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins. They are betting that the unfiltered style that has brought Platner widespread attention as someone who could help Democrats reach young men will backfire with women.
