A triggering feeling of disappointment surrounded Jessica Howard after a scathing report found that the FBI made a series of critical errors in its handling of sexual abuse allegations against former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. Nassar sexually abused female athletes for years, including Howard herself.
"At the beginning of this process. It [Howard's feelings] used to be fiery and outrage like how can this happen, and now I don't know. I guess I've come to expect that nothing will be done. But again, you're talking about the FBI. The FBI is one of the most trusted institutions in our country," Howard told "CBS This Morning." The Justice Department's inspector general accuses the FBI of failing to respond to the Nassar allegations "with the utmost seriousness and urgency that they deserved."Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
