
Sudbury will soon be opening the doors to its first Sikh temple

The Sikh community in Sudbury will soon have a space to call home. Sudbury is the third city in the northeast to open a Sikh gurdwara.
As of next month the former St. Paul’s United Church on Regent Street will be home to the Sikh community in Sudbury.
Seven years ago, Karan Bir Babheshe moved from India to Sudbury where he studied at Cambrian College.
He was one of the individuals involved in making all of this come together. He says as happy as everyone is, there are mixed feelings.
“We are excited, we are happy, you can talk to a lot of Sikh people here and you will see there is a wave of happiness but there’s mixed emotions because it is happening now but after a long long wait for us,” said Babheshe. “Most of the families or students were doing their worship and executing their faith in the basements or the small houses.“
