
Stocks slide as volatility continues

It's no turnaround Tuesday on Wall Street: Stocks resumed their selloff at the opening bell for another ride on the market roller coaster.
All three major indexes opened sharply lower and extended their losses in the first hour of trading. The Dow (INDU), which fell more than 1,000 points at its lowest point on Monday, was down 2.2%, or some 750 points.
The S&P 500 (SPX), once again on track to close in correction territory, traded 2.6% lower. A correction is defined as a 10% drop from the most recent peak. In the case of the S&P, that was just three weeks ago, when it hit its record high on January 3.

Two top House lawmakers emerged divided along party lines after a private briefing with the military official who oversaw September’s attack on an alleged drug vessel that included a so-called double-tap strike that killed surviving crew members, with a top Democrat calling video of the incident that was shared as part of the briefing “one of the most troubling things” he has seen as a lawmaker.
