Stellantis halts construction at Windsor, Ont., EV battery plant

Stellantis and LG Energy Solution have halted construction on an electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor, Ont.
A spokesperson for Stellantis said the companies are implementing contingency plans because “the Canadian Government has not delivered on what was agreed to.”
“Effective immediately, all construction related to the battery module production on the Windsor site has stopped,” Lou Ann Gosselin said in an email.
A Saturday statement from Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said the deal is in question due to the federal government not meeting its commitments, “jeopardizing not only the completion of the EV plant but also our efforts to attract additional investment to the region.”
