Six, including four minors, killed in road accident in Haveri district

Tragic accident on Pune-Bengaluru highway kills six, injures two, involving minors in overspeeding SUV collision.
Six persons, including three minor girls and a minor boy, were killed on the spot and two seriously injured when an overspeeding SUV hit a truck from behind and overturned on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway near Motebennur in Byadgi taluk of Haveri district on Thursday (May 8, 2025).
Of the eight persons travelling in the SUV, six were killed on the spot and two girls sustained serious injuries. After providing them initial treatment at district hospital in Haveri, the two injured were sent to KMCRI Hospital in Hubballi for further treatment. The condition of one person is said to be serious.
Superintendent of Police of Haveri district Anshukumar gave the names of the deceased as Syed Farhan Syed Inamulla (20) and Ummera Syed Inamulla (11) of Harihar, Alisha Akbar Narangi (22) and Purakhan alias Apnan Akbar Narangi (14) of Mapusa in Goa, Ummesheepa Afroz Udagatti (13) of Ranebennur and Ashiya Khalandar (12) of Dharwad. Syed Farhan was driving the vehicle.
The injured persons are Mehak Rasheed Narangi (18) of Goa and Ummitasqeen Afroz Udagatti (11) of Ranebennur.
Mr. Anshukumar told press persons that families from Ranebennur, Harihar and Goa who were related, had planned a trip and were proceeding towards Hubballi from Ranebennur. While the deceased were travelling by the SUV, others were travelling in the bus, which had left earlier. The accident occurred when the overspeeding SUV lost control while overtaking and hit the truck from behind and overturned. Byadgi Police have registered a case.

Currently, only the services in the 32 series stop at the section of the road adjacent to the Broadway terminus, temporarily closed on account of reconstruction work. Small traders association tells R. Ragu that ensuring the services now accommodated at the temporary terminus at Island Grounds stop at NSC Bose road would benefit visitors to the markets in Parrys
