Sinners, One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value take early lead in 2026 Oscar nominations

Nominations for the 98th Academy Awards began Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET, hosted by presenters Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman.
It was an early and strong start for both One Battle After Another and, perhaps surprisingly, Norwegian film Sentimental Value. Each scored numerous nods across acting categories, while each went up for the Oscars' first new category in 25 years: achievement in casting.
The first nominations went to Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners) and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) for best performance by an actress in a supporting role.
Nominations for performance by an actor in a supporting role went to Benicio del Toro (One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another) and Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value).
Some of this year's biggest hopefuls are Sinners, One Battle After Another and Hamnet. The latter two recently took home the top film prizes for their respective categories at the Golden Globes, while Sinners is potentially poised to break an Oscars record for nominations.
No movie has ever landed more than 14 nominations at the awards — a fete only achieved by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land. But Ryan Coogler's vampire horror flick stands at least a chance of entering that rarefied group, based on its craft, Coogler's writing and direction, and Michael B. Jordan's acting (it would be his first nomination).
The 98th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place March 15 at Los Angeles's Dolby Theatre, hosted by Conan O'Brien. Viewers can tune into the nominations live at Oscar.com, Oscars.org or the academy's digital platforms.
