
‘Sick to my stomach’: Kevin Pillar’s parents relive horrifying moment

It is every parent’s worst nightmare: their son sprawled out in a sea of his own blood, no one knowing for what seems like an eternity how a 94.5 mph fastball to the face would impact his career. Or life.
“I was sick to my stomach and I felt that I was gonna throw up,” said Kevin Pillar’s mother, Wendy. “Probably the worst, what can I say, spectacle I’ve ever seen of someone bleeding that much,” said his father, Mike. “I watch a lot of UFC and boxing. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so much blood pouring out like that on anybody. I was kinda like, ‘Oh my God, I hope his whole face isn’t shattered.’ ”
SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
