Doha, Qatar: The Shura Council has joined parliaments around the world in celebrating the International Day of Parliamentary Action, which falls on June 30 of each year and marks the 136th anniversary of the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
On this occasion, the Shura Council, in a statement Monday, extended its deepest gratitude and appreciation to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for his sound directives and continuous support for parliamentary action in the State of Qatar, and for his promotion of popular participation, which contributes to consolidating the foundations of stability, development, and modernization.
The Council noted that this year's celebration comes within the framework of the IPU's commitment to building more inclusive parliaments by enabling all to contribute to legislative life, while respecting the cultural specificity, values, and national references of each country.
The Shura Council affirmed its support for international initiatives aimed at promoting balanced community participation through the empowerment of women and youth, thus contributing to enhancing stability and social cohesion.
It commended the pivotal role of parliaments in consolidating the principles of popular participation, strengthening the rule of law, achieving sustainable development goals, and expanding areas of international cooperation.
