QNADohaThe Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) held an exceptional meeting, through video conference technology, on the role of parliaments and their organisation in the time of pandemic, in parallel with the convening of the 142nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).The meeting, which ended yesterday, was devoted to exchanging experiences and best practices about parliaments’ work in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, their role in combating the epidemic, and the health and preventive measures taken by each legislative council to regulate parliamentary work in the face of the pandemic’s continued spread.The Shura Council was represented at this meeting by Secretary-General of the Shura Council HE Fahd bin Mubarak Al Khayarin, who praised the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s wise directives to officials to begin implementing a package of decisions and precautionary measures, as well as the establishment of a supreme emergency committee to combat the spread of the pandemic.His Excellency reviewed the legislative efforts made by the State of Qatar’s Shura Council, as well as the structural and organizational measures taken to adapt to the social distancing restrictions and medical and preventive precautions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.The general secretaries of the parliaments of the various Inter-Parliamentary Union member states presented their countries’ experiences in order to enrich the discussion and exchange experiences.
