Congress leader Shashi Tharoor today met Mallikarjun Kharge and pledged his support in taking the party forward, a week after the 80-year-old veteran defeated the Thiruvananthapuram MP by a wide margin in the election for the top post. Mr Tharoor turned up for the ceremony at the party headquarters, in which outgoing party chief Sonia Gandhi formally passed the baton to Mr Kharge after a 23-year term.
"Gathered for a brief chat after Kharge ji sat in his new office for a symbolic moment. Pledged him my full support & cooperation in taking Congress forward," he tweeted later, with a picture of him with Mrs Gandhi and Mr Kharge.
