Sensex Crashes Over 950 Points, Nifty Below 16,700 On Omicron Fears

The Indian equity benchmarks staged a gap down opening as spread of Omicron variant of Coronavirus rattled investors' sentiment. The Sensex fell as much as 975 points and Nifty 50 index dropped below its important psychological level of 16,700.

As of 9:24 am, the Sensex was down 948 points at 56,063 and Nifty 50 index dropped 269 points or 1.58 per cent to 16,716.
