Sen. Cotton probes DOD how US airman who lit himself on fire was 'allowed to serve on active duty'
Fox News
Sen. Tom Cotton wants answers from the DOD on how Aaron Bushnell, the U.S. airman who lit himself on fire outside of Israeli embassy this week, was permitted to be on active duty since 2020.
Cotton wants to know how Bushnell flew under the DOD's radar, and whether he had any access to classified information that could compromise U.S. national security. Jamie Joseph is a writer who covers politics. She leads Fox News Digital coverage of the Senate.
"You have made it a top priority to address ‘extremism’ amongst our total force, and this act of horrific violence – in support of a terrorist group – raises serious questions about how this individual was allowed to serve on active duty," Cotton wrote to DOD Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday.
