As part of the anti-drugs campaign, the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association pasted ‘say no to drugs’ stickers on the private city buses plying in Mangaluru on Wednesday.
The Association arranged for staging of ‘Anti Drugs campaign’ street play by Students of School of Social Work at Service Bus Stand in Hampankatta, Thokkottu, Ullal, Konaje and Lalbagh.
Launching the campaign, Association President Aziz Partipady said the bus owners are joining hands with the city police to free the city from drug menace. There is no question of the Association allowing any driver or conductor, who is under influence of narcotic drugs, to be in the bus.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime) Ravish Naik said, apart from acting on information sent by people to police by scanning ‘QR Code’, the police are also conducting random checks to catch drug peddlers. Those found consuming drugs are being treated by police as victims and necessary aid is being given. Recently, random checks were done by stopping vehicles of some private and government educational institutions.
Expressing concern over drastic impact on consumer’s health with consumption of synthetic narcotic drugs, Mr. Naik sought cooperation of people in freeing Mangaluru from drug menace.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City Armed Reserve) P. Umesh released the ‘Say No to Drugs’ stickers.
