A British award show went gender-neutral for its "Artist of the Year" category, which singer Sam Smith advocated for but now calls it a "shame" that no female artists were nominated.
"I look forward to a time where awards shows can be reflective of the society we live in. Let’s celebrate everybody, regardless of gender, race, age, ability, sexuality and class," he said. Alexander Hall is an associate editor for Fox News Digital. Story tips can be sent to Alexander.hall@fox.com.
Adele won the first gender-neutral award for the category in 2022, and while saying that she can "understand" why the nature of the award changed, still praised women as a distinct group, proclaiming she is "really proud of us."
