New Zealand Legends, on Saturday, September 17, beat Bangladesh Legends by eight wickets in Match No.8 of the Road Safety World Series at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
After the match was curtailed to 11 overs per side, New Zealand Legends opted to field first and started in a brilliant way. Kyle Mills and Hamish Bennett got the wickets of Nazimuddin and Mehrab Hossain and reduced the Bangladesh Legends to 9 for 2 in 1.5 overs.
Aftab Ahmed started by hitting a four and a six, but ran out of luck after Mills accounted for his wicket. From there on, Alok Kapali and Dhiman Ghosh steadied the ship for their team with an unbeaten 83-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 51 balls.
Kapali was the more attacking of the two as the right-handed batter scored 37 runs off 21 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Ghosh lent him support and scored 41 off 32 with three fours and a six.
On the back of their knocks, Bangladesh Legends set their opponents a target of 99 to chase down. Mills was arguably the standout bowler for the New Zealand Legends. James Franklin, Anton Devcich and Jason Spice gave 65 runs in six overs and failed to pick up a wicket.
New Zealand didn’t get off to the best of starts after Devcich got out to left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak in the third over. Thereafter, Jamie How and Dean Brownlie put their heads down and steadied the ship for their team.
