Amid skyrocketing fuel prices, there has been a surge in demand for electric vehicles and charging stations among the largest users of cab fleet. With steep fuel prices leading to financial burden, Information Technology firms, MNCs, BPOs — which employ lakhs of people across India — have demanded government rebate to help them shift to electric vehicles. "If the corporate and IT-BPO sector gets rebate on electric vehicles, thousands of diesel or CNG run cabs will stop emitting carbon footprints. Transporting employees is very crucial for the sector and it uses largely fossil fuel-run cabs and buses. Also, charging station facilities near the office premises can be a great leap towards reducing global warming," said Sameer Saxena, founding member of Global Association for Corporate Services (GACS). As of now, these sectors hire cabs from vendors, most of which are diesel run. The transport agencies hike the rates as soon as the price of fuel goes north. More than one lakh cabs are used across the three major satellite cities of Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad, where these sectors are booming.More Related News
