The rift between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and governor RN Ravi has widened. The ruling party has expressed displeasure over the governor not providing assent and forwarding the Bills passed in the TN assembly to the President.
The rift between the Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and the Tamil Nadu government has widened due to the delay in providing assent to the Bills passed by the TN assembly . The DMK run state government has made it clear that they are not happy with governor RN Ravi.
After DMK’s mouthpiece, Murasoli, criticised the governor multiple times, the party’s floor leader, TR Balu, sought an Attention Notice over the issue.
“The Governor of Tamilnadu is defying the duties and responsibilities conferred under Article 200 and creating a Constitutional dead-lock,” stated TR Balu in the Attention notice.
He also claimed that the Governor is not assenting to the Bills passed by the State Legislature of Tamil Nadu and not forwarding the Bills to the President for his assent.
DMK Spokesperson Saravanan stated that the governor has been playing politics while he has taken an oath to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution. “The will of Tamil Nadu is to scrap the NEET but what has he done? The minimum expected from him is to follow the Constitutional principles. Why is he withholding the Bill for so long and insulting the will of Tamil Nadu?” questioned Saravanan.
However, BJP spokesperson Narayanan stated that the governor was following the Constitution and no time frame is allowed for him to provide assent and that governor RN Ravi would take a decision at the appropriate time.
“The Governor is the Constitutional authority. He can’t create a dead-lock and TR Balu and DMK should understand that the Governor follows the Constitution properly”, stated Narayayan.
