Retired Navy Capt. Royce Williams talks about his act of service during a pivotal airborne battle in the Korean War. Details of his heroics had been classified.
On Nov. 18, 1952, Williams was assigned to USS Oriskany which was stationed in the Sea of Japan. "Our primary mission was air support and anti-air logistics," Williams said. "There was a major city about halfway between the border and Soviet Union called Chongjin. We basically stationed the carriers and the other ships in that area so that we could hit a city called Hoeryŏng. It had major supplies of manufacturing and warehousing."
