A Texas Republican congressional candidate was called out by two GOP congresswomen who have endorsed her Thursday for "unacceptable and hurtful" comments she made a day earlier about Chinese immigrants, anti-Asian violence in the US and the coronavirus pandemic.
The comments by Sery Kim, a candidate vying for the GOP nomination in the race to represent Texas' 6th Congressional District, a seat that was held by Rep. Ron Wright until his death in February following a Covid-19 diagnosis, came during a candidate forum hosted by two Republican groups in the district. At the forum, Kim, responding to a question about the US' immigration crisis, said: "I don't want them here at all," referring to potential Chinese immigrants. "They steal our intellectual property, they give us coronavirus, they don't hold themselves accountable."
Janet Mills and her allies are counting on a gender gap to narrow Platner’s wide lead ahead of the June 9 primary to decide who will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins. They are betting that the unfiltered style that has brought Platner widespread attention as someone who could help Democrats reach young men will backfire with women.

As a shrinking number of Transportation Security Administration agents work to keep hourslong security lines moving despite not being paid, President Donald Trump stepped into the fray Saturday, announcing he will send Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to airports by Monday if Congress doesn’t agree to a plan to end the partial government shutdown.
