House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is facing calls to resign after he reportedly joked about hitting Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., with a giant gavel he was gifted at a dinner in Nashville Saturday evening.
McCarthy spoke optimistically about Republicans retaking the House in 2022 and him becoming speaker, and he asked the GOP donors in attendance to join him in Washington so they could watch Pelosi hand him the gavel, The Washington Post’s Michael Scherer reported on Twitter. "It will be hard not to hit her with it but I will bang it down," McCarthy reportedly said.
