Ajinkya Rahane is currently tending to an injury suffered in the Indian Premier League while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. He was reduced to dragging his right leg after tearing a tendon during a game.

Former India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had to leave the Indian Premier League bio-bubble in the final days of the group stages after tearing a tendon in his leg. He suffered the injury while opening for the franchise while playing against SunRisers Hyderabad. Set to be out of action till at least six to eight weeks, Rahane is currently going through a rehabilitation process in the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Speaking to PTI about the update on the injury, Rahane said that he was on track with his regime and hopefully he will be getting fit by eight weeks at maximum.

Rahane’s injury looked painful on TV as the player was reduced to dragging his right leg while batting. He was not able to run and looked in a lot of pain.

“That (injury) was really unfortunate. But my rehab is going really well. I am recovering really well. I was in Bangalore (at the NCA) for nearly 10 days and I am going there again for my rehab and recovery. It’s been on track," Rahane told PTI.

The former Indian vice captain was dropped from the Indian side after the South Africa series and was advised to go back to the Indian domestic set-up by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

Rahane found his touch in the Ranji Trophy and was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL as their first choice opener. Although was season was forgettable with KKR, Rahane said that the focus was now to get back on track and getting fully fit.

“So right now my only focus is on getting better. Get fit as soon as possible and be on the field. I am not sure (when) I will be able to get (fully) fit, it is expected to be around 6-8 weeks but at this moment it is about taking one day at a time, one week at a time," added the elegant right-handed batter.
