Rangers’ playoff hopes rely on desperation versus rival Islanders
NY Post
The Rangers used words like disappointing and demoralizing after a 4-0 home loss to the Islanders on Thursday night severely damaged whatever remained of their playoff hopes.
They could have inched within one point of the Islanders with back-to-back victories, including Saturday’s follow-up at the Coliseum, but they instead now trail their clearly better Long Island neighbors by seven points. The Blueshirts also trail the Bruins, who have played two fewer games, by six points with just five to play, albeit with their final two in Boston next week.
SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
