The current crisis stems from Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's run for Congress president, owing to which he may have to relinquish his CM post in Rajasthan. Earlier, Gehlot had asserted that he would continue as the chief minister of Rajasthan even if he assumed the responsibility of Congress president.
