Quebec parents could be asked to supervise classrooms if teachers are sick

If too many teachers are out sick with COVID-19, parents may be asked to supervise the classroom in their place, a teachers' union says. Schools must develop a contingency plan in the case of low personnel, which could include listing people to be called in as reinforcements.
Schools must develop a contingency plan in the case of low personnel, which could include listing people such as parents to be called in as reinforcements, the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers (QPAT) told CTV Thursday.
Students are scheduled to return to class on Monday, Jan. 17, after working remotely since the end of winter break.
The new measures will apply to daycares as well, said QPAT's president, Heidi Yetman.
Contingency plans could also include having teachers work from home via video conference while students are supervised in-person by volunteers, Yetman said.
