Doha, Qatar: In support of the health system in Niger, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has successfully concluded a specialised medical convoy dedicated to treating eye diseases in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
The initiative was implemented in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation and the National Eye Health Program (NEHP) under Niger’s Ministry of Health (MoH), and in coordination with QRCS’s office in Niger.
The official launch ceremony took place on November 20, following a formal meeting that brought together the Qatari medical team from Hamad Medical Corporation, officials from the National Eye Health Program, the Secretary-General of Niger’s Ministry of Health, and local medical staff.
The 16 days of the convoy aimed to deliver comprehensive services, including medical examinations, cataract surgeries, distribution of medicines and eyeglasses, and health education programs to raise awareness about eye disease prevention, treatment, and management.
A total of 1,463 successful surgeries were performed (663 men and 800 women), along with the diagnosis and examination of 13,160 cases (6,179 men and 6,981 women).
