Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar Foundation (QF) is to host its first performing arts festival, Dâreesha, from December 12 to 17 at Education City, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Qatar National Day and Daam Fund, showcasing a variety of local talent. Reflecting Qatar Foundationâs (QF) diverse environment, Dâreesha will encompass different focus areas, including research, education, technology and science, and feature performances ranging from theatre, visual arts and music to workshops, interactive dining experiences, and storytelling sessions.âWe are delighted to be hosting our first performing arts festival, partnering with a variety of local stakeholders to bring this event to life,â said Machaille Hassan Al Naimi, president of Community Development, Qatar Foundation. âShowcasing and celebrating the local culture, heritage and language, Dâreesha reflects our diverse and inclusive environment. Serving as an opportunity for the whole community to explore their curiosity, creativity and individuality, it will help connect like-minded individuals, increase intercultural dialogue, and build a sustainable performing arts culture in Qatar. âImportantly, Dâreesha reflects a love of art, which is in the very fabric of Qatar, and the countryâs ambitions of being a hub of arts and culture â within the region and beyond.âNaimi added, âTaking place during the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, Dâreesha will offer a glimpse into what can be expected next year when Qatar hosts the World Cup â marking the first time the tournament is being held in the Middle East â showcasing how Education City truly is a gateway to a vibrant community.â Mariam Al Hamadi, director of Culture and Arts at Ministry of Culture, said: âDâreesha is an opportunity to explore and nurture talent in the field of the Arts in Qatar.âThis collaboration aims to help achieve the goals of the Qatar National Vision, through cultural-focused partnerships with organisations across the country within key sectors such as science, research, and education. This includes performing arts, where students are key players in driving creativity and shaping our culture for the future.âShe added, âOur centres at the Ministry of Culture, including the Theater Affairs Center and the Visual Arts Center, are working together to help promote creativity in Qatar.â Performances will take place across the Green Spine, the Ceremonial Court and Chefâs Garden at Education City, adhering to local social distancing guidelines as set out by the Ministry of Public Health.Tickets should be purchased ahead of the event.
