Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar Sports Club won the His Highness the Amir’s Table Tennis Cup for the fifth time in a row after defeating Al-Sadd 3-1 in the final match on Sunday at Abdullah Bin Suhaim Hall at Qatar Sports Club. Al Rayyan finished third after defeating Al Arabi (3-1) in the third and fourth place ranking match.Qatar Club was awarded the title by Khalil Al Mohannadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association, President of the Asian and Arab Federations, and First Vice-President of the International Tennis Federation. Al Sadd Club received second place medals, and Al Rayyan Club received third place medals.After winning the league title, Qatar Club completed the double for the 2021-2022 season with this title.Qatar SC advanced to the finals by defeating Al Rayyan (3-1) in the semi-finals, while Al Sadd SC advanced by defeating Al Arabi (3-2) in the same round.Qatar Club won the Amir’s Cup for the fifth time in a row and the sixth time in its history, having previously won the trophy in 2001-2002, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021. In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Khalil Al-Mohannadi expressed his delight with the final match of His Highness the Amir’s Table Tennis Cup, congratulating Qatar Club on their victory.“The Qatar and Al-Sadd teams presented good levels in the tournament, and the final was global, as the Qatar Club players presented a very high level today, especially the Qatari players, most notably Ahmed Khalil Al-Mohannadi and Muhammad Muthanna,” Al-Mohannadi said.“In the last three years, Qatar Club has won the Arab Championship and been runner-up for two years,” he added. It is always vying for titles. It is regarded as one of the best teams in the Arab world, not just in Qatar. Qatar and Al Sadd will compete in the Arab Championship, which will be held in Tunisia next November.” According to the QTA President, this season’s table tennis activity was notable both locally and internationally, and the 40-day tournament saw great work at high levels, particularly among the four teams that reached the semi-finals.The QTA President added that the national team players will have a period of rest and that an internal camp for the players will be held immediately after Eid Al-Fitr in preparation for the Gulf Gulf Sports Games, which will be held next month in Kuwait, and that he hopes the team will win this tournament.
