Qatar Chamber, British parliament delegation review commercial ties

HE Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani met with a delegation from the British Parliament headed by Angus Brendan MacNeil, Member of Parliament and Chair of the UK International Trade Commission, who is currently visiting Qatar. During the meeting, the officials touched on bilateral relations between the two countries in the commercial, and economic fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them. They also discussed investment opportunities available for both sides, as well as the British interest in deepening economic relations with Qatar particularly and the GCC states in general after its exit from the European Union, and opening markets to Qatari and British companies to expand trade and investment between the two sides. Addressing the meeting, HE Sheikh Khalifa praised the close relations between Qatar and the UK, noting that there are various Qatari investments there in many sectors such as infrastructure, real estate, and sports. He also paid tribute to the two countries' trade exchange, stressing that the UK is an important trade partner to Qatar. In turn, Angus MacNeil lauded the distinct relations between both countries, assuring his country's keenness to underpin cooperation with Qatar in all fields, increase their trade exchange and attract more Qatari investments in all sectors. He also pointed out that the delegation's visit aims to explore new aspects of cooperation between both parties and study mechanisms that facilitate mutual investments between them. The Qatari investments in the UK amounted to GBP 40bn, while the two countries' trade volume exceeded QR 16.6bn last year despite the implication of the Covid-19 pandemic.
