Tribune News NetworkTokyoQatar’s Abdulrahman Abdulqader claimed the bronze of men’s F34 shot put event in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on Saturday with a season’s best throw of 11.36m.On this occasion, Abdulqader said, “It’s an honour to win a new medal for Qatar as our nation never spares any effort to support its athletes in all sports.“I tried my best to claim a medal and I’m thankful that I managed to win third place and the bronze medal.”Jordan’s Ahmad Hindi took the gold medal with a new world record of 12.25m while Morocco’s Azeddine Nouiri clinched the silver medal with an effort of 11.55m.In Rio 2016 Paralympics, Abdulqader won Qatar’s first-ever Paralympic medal when he claimed the silver medal of the same event with a throw of 11.15m.He had also won gold at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London and a gold medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.On the other hand, Qatar’s woman shot putter Sara Masoud achieved her best record in the season with a throw of 5.42m.The Qatari champion is the first Qatari athlete to achieve a womens Paralympic medal in Qatar’s history after she silver in category 33 at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. She also won a silver at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, gold at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and a silver at the 2018 Asian Paralympic Games in Jakarta.Commenting on the achievements, HE President of Qatar Paralympic Committee Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud Al Thani expressed delight with Al Adaam athlete Abdulrahman Abdulqader winning the bronze and Sara Masoud’s achievement of her best record.He congratulated the Qatari delegation participating in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and dedicated the accomplishment to the wise leadership of the country.For his part, Executive Director of Qatar Paralympic Committee Amir Al Mulla expressed pleasure with the accomplishment, noting that Abdulrahman Abdulqader managed to achieve the bronze medal in the shot put in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games despite the strong competition and his injury.
