The Washington man who barricaded himself inside a Pullman apartment and threatened to kill his roommates before being fatally shot by a SWAT officer has been identified.
Kopacka, 36, allegedly barricaded himself inside his apartment after police tried to speak with him. As crisis negotiators tried to make contact, he "began firing from his apartment," at which point the building residents were evacuated, Pullman Police Chief Jake Opgenorth wrote in a Dec. 15 press release. "After unsuccessful negotiations, escalating behavior and continued danger to the public and officers, the male was shot by a member of the Whitman County Regional SWAT Team. The suspect was found deceased when the Whitman County Regional SWAT Team cleared the apartment," Opgenorth said at the time.
