The Puducherry government has decided to contribute ₹1.5 lakh towards the Central government scheme of providing free treatment for seven days to road accident victims.
Making an announcement in the Assembly after the zero hour on Friday (March 21, 2025), Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced a scheme providing cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for accident victims, covering seven days of free treatment in a hospital. The Puducherry government has decided to provide an additional ₹1.5 lakh for accident victims with head and spinal injuries in the Union Territory (UT), the Chief Minister added.
“The scheme introduced by the Prime Minister is a good thing. Our government has decided to contribute ₹1.5 lakh more so that people with head and spinal cord injuries can meet medical expenses free of cost. The UT’s share of ₹1.5 lakh will be given only to those victims who need treatment for injuries to head and spinal cord,” he said.
Earlier during the question hour, the Chief Minister said the government would consider the demand to increase the salary of ASHA workers in the UT. Currently, the workers are given ₹10,000 every month and some of them also get incentives based on their work and engagements.
Of the ₹10,000, the share of the territorial administration was ₹7,000, while that of the Central government was ₹3,000. Legislators had demanded increasing the monthly salary of ASHA workers to ₹18,000. As per their demand, the government would consider increasing its share of the salary, the Chief Minister said.
