Police in New York are searching for a 19-year-old college student who disappeared more than a week ago. Saniyya Dennis, a sophomore at SUNY Buffalo State College, was last seen on campus on April 24, authorities said.
Police said she was last seen in the elevator of her dorm around 11 p.m. Her cell phone was later pinged near Goat Island in Niagara Falls, which is located about 20 miles north of campus, CBS affiliate WIVB reported. The university police department is working with local, state and federal authorities in the search. Dennis has not been in touch with her family and no transactions have been made on any of her financial accounts, CBS New York reported.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
