Chittoor police launch 'Dhairya Sparsha' initiative to enhance child safety awareness in girls' schools and hostels.
The women police wing launched an awareness camp focusing on child safety, legal protections and emergency response mechanisms at KGBV girls school here on Wednesday. Shakti team Nodal Officer and Additional SP (Operations and in-charge Admin) S.R. Rajashekhar Raju attended the session.
Addressing the students, the official explained the ‘Dhairya Sparsha’ initiative, stressing the importance of recognising good touch and bad touch at an early age. Students were advised to firmly say no to any inappropriate behaviour and immediately report such incidents to parents, teachers or the police without fear or hesitation. “The initiative would be intensified by covering all the girls’ schools and hostels in the district in a phased manner,” the Additional SP said.
Speakers from the police department highlighted the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, stating that marriage below 18 years was illegal and severely impacted education, health and long-term prospects of girls. Students were encouraged to prioritise education and personal development.
Provisions of the POCSO Act were also explained, underscoring strict punishment for sexual offences against children. Police urged students to report any abuse promptly.
Officials also briefed students on emergency helplines 112 and 1098, and demonstrated the Shakti App, which enables instant SOS alerts to nearby police stations and family members during emergencies.
