A Canada-wide warrant was issued for the arrest of 35-year-old Ronald Albert Canuel of Bathurst. He was arrested in New Brunswick.
The Truro Police Service received information on Dec. 19, 2024, that a 27-year-old Truro man and a 25-year-old Pictou Landing First Nation man had been in hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police say their injuries were consistent with stab wounds.
Two days later, before noon on Dec. 21, the RCMP responded to a report that a man was in medical distress at a home on Vincent Drive in Upper Onslow, N.S. The RCMP says the 25-year-old man died at the scene.
The next day, around 10 a.m., Truro police responded to a report of a man in medical distress at a home on Lavinia Drive in Truro. The 27-year-old man died at the scene.
Their deaths have been ruled as homicides. Police have determined the men were also the stabbing victims who had been in hospital.
Canuel is facing two counts of second-degree murder. Police say he knew the victims.
