Prime Minister Modi to distribute National Panchayat Awards in Madhubani, Bihar, boosting NDA's stronghold in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bihar on Thursday and announce several welfare programmes for the Assembly poll-bound State. This will be Mr. Modi’s second visit to the State since February.
The PM was also due to attend another event on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹20,000 crore. However, his visit has been cancelled in solidarity with those killed in J&K’s Pahalgam, which includes a Kanpur resident, Shubham.
In Madhubani in north Bihar’s Mithilanchal region, the PM is slated to address a function in Jhanjharpur block and distribute the 2025 National Panchayat Awards. The award ceremony is hosted by the Panchayati Raj Ministry every year to recognise the best-performing panchayats. Mr. Modi will also flag off Bihar’s second Amrit Bharat Express train, as well as some other passenger trains.
Expressing gratitude to Mr. Modi, Madhubani MP Ashok Kumar Yadav of the BJP said the “Mithilanchal region is indebted” to him.
The BJP has held sway over the Mithilanchal region for the past several elections. In the 2020 Assembly poll, the BJP-led NDA won over 60% of the seats in north Bihar. A senior party leader said the Prime Minister’s visit will help consolidate the NDA’s votes in the region.
