Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh said that he is hopeful to return to action in time for the T20 World Cup 2022. Marsh said he is likely to join the Australia squad for the series against West Indies next month.
Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is hopeful to return in time for his team's title defence at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.
Australia will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand at Sydney Cricket Ground on October 22.
Marsh, the Player of the Final in 2021, is nursing his ankle after suffering an injury during Australia's series against Zimbabwe in August. Subsequently, he missed the series against New Zealand and now has been ruled out of T20Is against India.
The 30-year-old said that he will be available for the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up series against West Indies next month. Australia will take on West Indies between October 5-7 before playing against England from October 9 to 14 in the build-up to the T20 World Cup.
"The ankle is coming along pretty well," Marsh was quoted as saying by The West Australia.
"It’s on the minor end of the scale but with the World Cup coming up, it’s the only opportunity to get it right. I’m certainly not worried about it, it’s coming along well and hopefully I’ll be right to play against the West Indies in a few weeks.
"I knew when I came home from Townsville that was going to be the case and I pushed for India but made the decision to get right for the West Indies series instead. There’s still so much cricket before the World Cup, we’ve got 6 T20s before it starts so plenty of time."
