The Railway Ministry has taken cognisance of the increasing demand of residents in and around Tiruverumbur for stoppage of express trains at the 'Adarsh' status station in the town.
The Ministry has indicated that the demand will be considered, in a reply to a letter sent earlier this year by State Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, who represents the constituency.
In his written response, Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has said the demand for stoppage of (express) trains at Tiruverumbur railway station will be studied. "The concerned Directorate has been asked for a detailed examination."
In the backdrop of rapid urbanisation of the stretch between Ariyamangalam and Thuvakkudi and the presence of BHEL, two ordnance factories and a few SIDCO industrial estates, the Tamil Nadu Makkal Valarchi Kuzhu has emphasised that the railways will stand to generate more revenue if there are stoppages for express trains at Tiruverumbur station.
The Railway Board ought to consider in right earnest the genuine need of the travelling public, N. Anbalagan, president of Tamil Nadu Valarchi Kuzhu, said.
According to a cross-section of the public, including traders and office-goers, one-minute stoppage of express trains at Tiruverumbur station will obviate the need for long-distance passengers to travel up to Tiruchi railway junction to board the trains.
All that is required is a nod by the Railway Board, factoring in the completion of track-doubling and electrification of the Tiruchi-Tiruverumbur stretch, they emphasise.
