"Our assessment is that the strike was a tragic mistake," Commander Gen. Kenneth McKenzie said.
During August evacuations in Kabul, commanders believed there was an imminent threat against U.S. service members assisting Americans and Special Immigrant Visa applicants at Hamid Karzai International Airport.
