
Pennsylvania mine collapse kills 1 following hours-long rescue operation

The Department of Environmental Protection, Red Cross and local rescue workers collaborated on the 8-hour operation that ended at around 11 pm Friday
Rescue crews responded to reports of a mine collapse in Fayette County at around 3 p.m. Friday. The Laurel Aggregates’ Lake Lynn mine consists of a limestone and sandstone quarry that had an underground mining area.
An hours-long operation to rescue an individual caught in the collapse lasted into the night. Red Cross also dispatched workers to the site to provide mental health services and support, KDKA reported.
