Though there was no official announcement made yet regarding the new Mayor till now, sources within the NDA have indicated that TDP floor leader and corporator of Ward 96, Peela Srinivasa Rao, who has been at the forefront of the alliance in the council in the last four years, is likely to be given the role.
If this becomes a reality, Mr. Peela Srinivasa Rao will be the second TDP leader to assume the position. It was during the years 1987-1992, TDP leader D.V. Subba Rao had held the position of Mayor. Mr. Peela Srinivasa Rao has got the backing from several NDA leaders, besides he has also the experience of working for the TDP in various positions in the last two decades including as the TDP district president.
However, sources said that the NDA leaders are also considering whether to offer the role to Mr. Peela Srinivasa Rao or continue with a woman candidate, preferably from the Yadava community, which has 22 corporators.
