Parents of son, 19, found dead outside The Pas push for answers

The parents of a 19-year-old who died outside The Pas last month are trying to piece together what happened in their son's final hours.
Val Charlette and Darrell Walker remember Peter Charlette as a kind and motivated teen who had his whole life ahead of him. They say they're looking for answers from the people they believe last saw their son, and from Mounties, who are investigating his death.
"I feel like I'm not even here, like I'm somewhere else. It's not real," Val told CBC News on Monday.
Peter's body was discovered off Highway 283, west of The Pas, on Feb. 25, Mounties announced that day.
In a different release issued that morning, police said they were looking for Peter after he was been reported missing the previous day just after 9 p.m. Peter was last seen walking away from a home near the Saskatchewan border the afternoon of Feb. 24, the release said.
RCMP said Peter's body was found in a wooded area about three kilometres from where he was last seen.
Val and Walker say they don't know the family Peter was with, and are suspicious about the circumstances leading up to their son's death. His family says he didn't have his phone and wasn't wearing a jacket or shoes.
Peter grew up in The Pas, where he'd served as a cadet, and graduated from Transcona Collegiate in Winnipeg last year. After high school, he returned home to live with his mother and studied at university while working part-time at a local hotel.
"I was very proud of him," Walker told CBC News last week.
He said his son was well-liked and that he enjoyed skateboarding and snowboarding.
Peter was gentle, polite and shy and had dreams of graduating from university, Val said, despite grieving his older sister's death, whose body was discovered on a golf course in Creighton, Sask., in October 2022.
Val believed her daughter Tristan Jobb's death was suspicious, but the medical examiner's office determined otherwise.
Peter "carried the burden of his sister's passing," Val said. "He had a lot of people that cared about him, and we were really watching out for him."
Val's sister Dolly described her nephew as everything you would want a 19-year-old to be: Courteous, helpful and respectful.
