A parliamentary panel has expressed dismay over the ‘abysmally low’ conviction rate in crimes against women and children in the country and suggested that the government must work out a mechanism for gathering information on reasons for the delay in the investigation in criminal cases on an annual basis. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by Congress leader Anand Sharma, also expressed disappointment over the continuous diversion of the Nirbhaya Fund towards other schemes and projects.More Related News

Although students from Tamil Nadu remain the leading recipients of educational loans across India, there has been a significant decline in the number of active loans they hold. The number of active education loan accounts decreased from 27.4 lakh accounts to about 20.1 lakh in the period. The fall can be mostly attributed to the fall in Tamil Nadu’s numbers.
