Pakistan lose to India in World Cup matches because of overexcitement, says Sohaib Maqsood

Barring the T20 World Cup last year in Oman and the UAE, India have beaten Pakistan in all World Cup matches regardless of the format.

Pakistan batter Sohaib Maqsood reckoned that overexcitement costs Pakistan their World Cup matches against India in World Cups. Pakistan had lost all their World Cup games against the Men in Blue until October 2021. Last year, Babar Azam’s Pakistan defeated Virat Kohli’s India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup match at the Dubai International Stadium.

Mohammed Rizwan, skipper Babar and Shaheen Shah Afridi combined to hand India the defeat. Prior to that, Pakistan strained to perform against India at the world level, regardless of the format. However, Maqsood also said that Pakistan are starting to get their acts together in games against India.

“The reason for the green shirts’ consistent defeat against India in World Cup matches is because the Pakistani team became overexcited (sic). However, in the recent past, our team has started treating Indo-Pak matches normally, and it has improved our performance too,” Maqsood was quoted as saying on Geo News.

India and Pakistan are next set to cross swords in the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 28 in Dubai. The teams, in fact, could end up playing three matches in the 20-over championship.

Later this year, India and Pakistan will face each other in the T20 World Cup in Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

As far as Maqsood is concerned, he last represented Pakistan in the T20I series against the West Indies in August 2021. The right-hander, thereafter, was ruled out of the T20 World Cup. Maqsood has also been a key member of Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
